SUBJECT: VALLEY OF THE CADDO MUSEUM

BACKGROUND: The Valley of the Caddo Museum has a large amount of artifacts assembled
and as a result are looking to buy or build a structure to house and display their collections. They
have also talked about adding sports memorabilia and possibly other items. After evidently
considering a number of different sites, the group has decided their preferred location is
immediately west of the police station, at the corner of Clarksville and Collegiate.
STATUS OF ISSUE: This property, approximately 11 acres, is owned by the city, so in order to
sell it, we would have to get the appraised value as a minimum. A sale could be conducted either
through public auction or sealed bid. Representatives of the museum group are expected to
address the council on February 11 about the possibility of purchasing the entire acreage.
BUDGET: Could generate unbudgeted revenue.
RECOMMENDATION: Provide direction to staff as to how to proceed.
