03-C Band Comsn (04/15/02)MINUTES Paris Municipal Band Commission A meeting of the members of the Paris Municipal Band Commission was held on Monday, April 15, 2002, at 12 noon, in the boardroom of the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce. PRESENT Randy Bunch Linda Suarez James Brunette Edmond Castleberry Albert Nichol ABSENT None Also present were: Tom Nuegent, Paris Municipal Band Director Sally Wright, Parks & Recreation Supervisor, City of Paris Patsy Daniels, Chairman, Crape Myrtle Committee Chairman Edmond Castleberry called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m. As the first order of business, the minutes from the previous meeting held on August 17, 2001, were unanimously approved as submitted on a motion by James Brunette, seconded by Albert Nichol. The annual budget for the Paris Municipal Band was reviewed. Discussion was held on the following issues: • Purchase of new chairs - Jim Brunette and Edmond Castleberry agreed to visit with Mike Malone regarding purchasing chairs as opposed to our borrowing them year after year. A problem has occurred with someone to set up and tear down after each performance. • Purchase of new stands - Tom Nuegent is going to check on the cost of folding stands, which take up much less space than the large stands borrowed from Paris High School Band Hall. • Tom Nuegent will purchase new music for this band season. • Transportation is an issue as the truck rental company is no longer in business. Randy Bunch is checking into alternatives. • A new sound system provider will be investigated by Randy Bunch and Edmond Castleberry as the company used last year did not show up for all of the performances. Kenny Daus and Paul Denney were recommended as replacements. • Musicians will be paid $25 per week that will include two practices and one concert. Paris Municipal Band Commission Minutes April 15, 2002 Page 2 On a motion by Albert Nichol, seconded by James Brunette, the 2002 band season practice and performance schedule was finalized for June 14, 21, 28; July 3(in Noyse Stadium), 12 and 19. All concerts will be held in Bywaters Park except July 3rd There was no specific discussion of music for the 2002 season. Tom Nuegent did mention that he had some music in mind and would follow up with the purchase of such. Albert Nichol provided a flyer that would be printed into a poster promoting the concerts. Discussion followed regarding advertising in The Paris News and the Dollarsaver Shopper. Ads will be placed in both. Linda Suarez will check on getting a discounted price in the Dollarsaver Shopper. The following dates were set for future Paris Municipal Band Commission meetings: August 1, January 2 and May 15. Discussion then followed regarding the replacement of the expired terms of James Brunette and Edmond Castleberry, both of whom have expressed an interest in renewing their membership on the Commission. In addition to their names, the Commission will propose the names of Dick Logee and Bobby Thomas. The Mayor of Paris will appoint individuals to fill the expired terms. In other business, Sally Wright volunteered to check on City Personnel availability for set up and tear down for each concert. In addition, she will check on storage availability near the park.
