12-A Library Board (02/19/03)Library Advisory Board February 19, 2003 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD February 19, 2003 The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at 4:00PM in the Library with Chairman Nancee Salzman presiding. All of the Library Board members were present, including: Anna Davis, Sarah Gambill, Peggy Guthrie, Vicki Terlap, John Howison, Joyce Kennemer, Nancee Salzman, Kevin Gray and Walter Williams. Also attending were Betty Landon, Library Director and Callie Thompson, Friends President. The minutes from January's meeting were approved. Betty presented board members January's budget report. Everything is in order with spending thus far this year with book money a little ahead of schedule. January stats included a report of 39 memorials totaling $805. The Children's Department report included several successful programs in January. They presented 18 school programs to 294 children and 52 adults. In addition, there were seven programs in the library for 71 children and 60 adults. Three young volunteers spent 9 hours and 45 minutes in the children's department. There will be a Dinosaur Program on Thursday, February 28th. Both Emily and Linda attended a workshop on summer reading programs. Ron fixed Billy Book! In adult programming, there were 3 programs which 57 people attended. There were 54 interlibrary loans. Ron Hervey, library employee, was introduced to the board. Ron is in charge of electronic media, including all things relating to computers and the internet. He has worked at the library for five years, since the internet was brought to the library. Ron helps patrons and staff with all types of computer questions, including how to log on, search, use Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Ron designs and maintains the library's web page and serves in the reference librarian rotation. duties as assigned. The luncheon will take place on Tuesday, May 6th, and Joy Davis will be the featured speaker. In the Director's Report, Betty reported that the new shelving is scheduled to be installed in April. The library is acquiring more and more DVDs. We have about 350 but not all of them will be out until there is a place to shelve them. Betty, Emily, and Linda attended a Head Start luncheon where they were able to meet with other agencies who work with the program. There will be a quarterly NETLS meeting on March 27 in Sherman. The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m. The next meeting will be held March 19, 2003 in the Gallery at 4 p.m. Vicki Terlap Date Approved
