03-B Library Adv Bd (3/19/03)Library Advisory Board March 19, 2003 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD March 19, 2003 The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at 4:00PM in the Library with Chairman Nancee Salzman presiding. The following Board members were present: Anna Davis, Peggy Guthrie, Vicki Terlap, John Howison, Joyce Kennemer, Nancee Salzman, Kevin Gray and Walter Williams. Also attending were Betty Landon, Library Director and Callie Thompson, Friends President. Sarah Gambill did not attend. The minutes from February's meeting were approved. Betty presented board members this month's budget report. Betty reported that "things are where they should be" with the budget. She reported that the building and grounds portion of the budget is way behind, but she is anticipating a bill soon which will bring things back to normal. Items designated with "03" in the budget are the state money items and show a negative, but everything is okay with those accounts. The money arrived after our budget was approved. The Children's Department report included several successful programs in February. They presented 14 preschool programs to 221 children and 43 adults. In addition, there were 11 programs in the library for 91 children and 90 adults. Three young volunteers spent 8 hours and 13 minutes in the children's department. Billy Book will appear at Kids Safe Saturday on the 22nd. The Children's Department is also featuring a reading reward program where they are giving away circus tickets to readers. There will be a Victorian Tea Party at the Wise House on April l0th for 8-13 year old girls. In adult outreach, there were 3 programs in which 55 attended. There were 40 interlibrary loans and 30 volunteer hours logged. Library Advisory Board March 19, 2003 Page 2 Judy ¥ickers, library employee, was introduced to the board. Judy is a 15- year library paraprofessional. She is in charge of acquisitions and orders books, DYDs, CDs via her computer, the phone or by fax. She orders materials selected by the staff and also does some selection. She prepares invoices, supervises the circulation and is in charge of the daily staff schedule. In addition, she checks in materials and works the reference desk. Callie Thompson, Friends president, reported that the luncheon will take place on May 6th. Flyers will go out in the next three weeks; the luncheon is held at the Paris Golf and Country Club at noon. In the Director's Report, Betty discussed the upcoming NETLS meeting. She has been contacted by the ALA headquarters in Chicago to set up interviews to promote National Library Week, April 6-12. She will do interviews on KBUS and KTBB She will also give a speech at the Newcomers Club meeting that week. She ordered magnets which list the library's hours, website, etc. to distribute that week. The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m. The next meeting will be held April 16, 2003 in the Gallery at 4 p.m. Vicki Terlap Date Approved
