ARLINGTON JANUARY 9TH, 2003 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this report is to request that the City Council consider the tirst reading of an ordinance designating the site of a proposed new corporate headquarters and research and development facility for Siemens Dematic Postal Automation as Reinvestment Zone Number Twenty-Two. DISCUSSION The City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on January 7, 2003, to consider the designation of Reinvestment Zone Number Twenty-Two on approximately 14 acres of land at the northeast corner of Pennant Drive and Nolan Ryan Expressway. A metes and bounds description of the property (Exhibit A) and a map (Exhibit B) are attached to the ordinance. The property owner, Trammel Crow Company, is requesting tax abatement from the City on the real and personal property improvements to be made to the site. According to the application for tax abatement, the approximate 233,000 square foot development is estimated to be valued in excess of $35 million, and is projected to create at least 600 jobs at an average salary of $60,000 per year. Staff is currently negotiating an 80 percent tax abatement and a Chapter 380 agreement. The negotiated percentage conforms to the City's Policy Statement for Tax Abatement.
