10-B Band Commission (9/3/03) MINUTES
Paris Municipal Band Commission
A meeting of the members of the Paris Municipal Band Commission was held on
Wednesday, September 3, 2003, at 12 noon, in the executive boardroom of the
Lamar County Chamber of Commerce.

Tom Neugent, Paris Municipal Band Director

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Randy Bunch at 12:10 p.m.
As the first order of business, the minutes from the previous meeting held on
March 17, 2003, were unanimously approved as submitted on a motion by Albert
Nichol, seconded by Linda Suarez.

was then a brief overview of the 2003 Concert Season that included:
Everything went well according to the Band Director Tom Neugent.
There are now plenty of chairs - 92.
There is a need for clarinet players.
Band Director will have control over the playing of the Star Spangled
Banner at all Paris Municipal Band performances. This was suggested
after the performance of the piece at the July 3rd concert.
Randy Bunch commented that people couldn't hear at the July 3rd concert.
The excessive lighting during the Crape Myrtle Queen Coronation proved
to be a hindrance for the musicians as it was difficult to read the music
with the lights so bright.
Problem band members will no longer be invited back to perform and that
determination will be at the will of the Band Director.
Discussion was then held on recommendations to the Mayor for the replacement
of Edmond Castleberry's unexpired term: Patsy Daniels, Edwin Pickle, and
Cindy Jones. Patsy Daniels was suggested as she is associated with the Crape
Myrtle Queen Coronation. Edwin Pickle was suggested as he is associated with
the Rotary Clubs and the Fireworks Display. Cindy Jones was suggested as she
has a child playing in the band and is seen at every concert.

For the terms to expire this year, the Commission would like to recommend the
reappointment of Albert Nichol, Linda Su Suarez and Randy Bunch (ref. Minutes
of March 17, 2003).
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:05 p.m.
