DRAFT <br /> <br />F:kAttorney\Lisa\Ordinances\CURRENT\FD Composition 2003.wpd <br /> November 7, 2003 <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF <br />THE CITY OF PARIS BE AMENDED BY REVISING SECTION 12-1 OF <br />SAID CODE TO AUTHORIZE THE STAFFING LEVELS OF THE FIRE <br />DEPARTMENT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF <br />ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND DECLARING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the employment of firefighters in the City of Paris is governed by Chapter <br />143 of the Local Government Code, dealing with Civil Service employment; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Section 143.021 of said Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code <br />provides for a municipality's governing body to establish the classifications of firefighters by <br />ordinance; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, because of budgetary restraints, the City Council, by prior Ordinance No. <br />2002-048, adopted September 26, 2002 had found it necessary to provide for a reduction in force <br />in the Fire Department by eliminating one (1) firefighter position and providing for the further <br />elimination of five (5) additional firefighter positions by attrition through vacancies as they <br />occur; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council now desires to increase the authorized staffing for the Fire <br />Department by eliminating the loss of positions through attrition and by reinstating one (1) <br />additional firefighter position; NOW, THEREFORE, <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all <br />things approved. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That Section 12-1 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, <br />be, and the same is hereby, amended so that such shall read as follows: <br /> <br />"Sec. 12-1. Composition of department. <br /> <br /> "The fire department of the City shall be composed of the fire chief, fire <br />marshal-assistant fire chief, and fifty-five (55) members classified as follows: <br /> <br /> <br />
