03-E Library Board (11/19/03)Library Advisory Board November 19, 2003 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD November 19, 2003 The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at 4:00PM in the Library with Chairman Nancee Salzman presiding. The following Board members were present: Jackie Alsobrook, Anna Davis, Peggy Guthrie, Joyce Kennemer, Nancee Salzman, and Walter Williams. Also attending were Betty Landon, Library Director and Gene Anderson, Finance Director, City of Paris. Sarah Gambill, Bill Kennedy, Vicki Terlap, and Callie Thompson, Friends' President did not attend. The minutes from the October meeting were approved. Betty introduced Gene Anderson, Finance Director, City of Paris. Gene presented a report on the various trust funds of Paris Public Library, giving the history, the original donation and the interest available. The funds are invested in CD's to allow quick access, if needed. Each board member was given a printed report. The budget report was favorable since only one month of the new fiscal year has passed. October circulation statistics were down 6,320 from last October. Children's programming had 18 programs with 572 children and 312 adults attending. In adult outreach, there were 2 programs which 29 people attended. There were 26 interlibrary loans. We had 43 memorials given for a total of $930. In the Director's Report, Betty discussed attending a PLANT meeting and the upcoming NETLS meeting in Garland on December 9. Betty also discussed the retrieving of long overdue items; items which were not returned in 2002 and 2003 total over $70,000. Betty wants to investigate the possibility of getting an ordinance passed about theft of library materials so that these patrons can be pursued in court. favor of looking into this.
