MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
BUILDING AND STANDARDS COMMISSION
Monday, Fehruary 16,2004
4:00 P.M.
I. Chad Brown called the lluilding and Standards Commission 1\ lœting to
order at 4:15P.M.
2. Roll was called.

3. Approval of Minutes of January 20, 2004:

Lucius Joe. Jr. seconded the motion. The motion earTied unanimously.
4. Public hearing to consider presentations by Code Inspeclor of the City of
Paris, and owner(s) and / or lien holders of the below listed propertit's which
have been given notice of a violation of City Ordinance that structures need
to be demolished because of lïre damage:

There were no comments Crom the audience conceming th,s propeny.
Brad Archer made a motion that the budding be dcmolíshcd wilhin 30
days with a $1000 pcr day civil penaìty and, if the building IS [WI
demolished within the 30 day lime period, the City will demolish the
budding. Lucius Joe, Jr. seconded the motion. The motion earned
unanimously,

davs with a $1000 per day civil penalty and, i l' the building is n"t

building. Brad Archer seconded the motion. The motion earncd
unanimously.

building, Brad Archer seconded the motion. Thc motion carried
unanimously.

Status of the properties that the Commission has issued orders.
Tommy Haynes addressed the ('ommission concell1ing the cases Ihal h'l\'e heen
heard, Or-ders have been issued on a lolal of 26 houses not including the homes
hsted above.
8 houses have been demolished by the Owner
6 houses have been demolished by the City at an approximatc e'ost "I'
$21.000, whieli is wel] within the City's budget of $80,()OO for demolition
3 houses have been repalred by thc Owner. These houses were' repaired
within the time frame issued by the Commission.
I house is in the process of being repaired. The deadline for the' rcp"irs on
this house is tomorrow.

4 houses are ready to demolish. The City is eurrent1y taking bIds on this
work.
4 orders were issued in January and those properties are currently in the
30-day grace period allotted by the Commission. ~1r. Haynes anllelpales
that the City wi]] demo1ish these homes,

:Ylike Alexander states that he ahs received more eooperalion from properl)
owners conceilling substandard buildings since the previous orders have I",ell
carried out. Several properties have not been presented to the Commission
because they have been repaired or demolished hefore the Commission could hear
the case. Mr. Haynes also states that the City has seen an increase III demolition
permits as a result of the Commission's aetions.
