RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS,
PARIS, TEXAS, ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE MAIN
STREET BOARD TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VISIONARIES IN
PRESERVATION PROGRAM CREATED BY THE TEXAS HISTORICAL
COMMISSION; AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF APPROPRIATE
APPLICATIONS, LETTER OF SUPPORT, AND OTHER NECESSARY
DOCUMENTS ASSOCIATED THEREWITH; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS
AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Visionaries in Preservation Program was created by the Texas Historical
Commission to address the preservation needs of communities across the state of Texas; and,
WHEREAS, the Visionaries in Preservation Program empowers communities at the grass
roots level to define their future through visioning and planning, in order to have a broad based,
locally supported and directed preservation program; and,
WHEREAS, the Visionaries in Preservation Program is currently accepting applications
for qualified entities to participate in said program; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Paris Main Street Board has reviewed said program and
recommends the City of Paris file an application, letter of support, and a11 other necessary
documents associated with seeking approval to participate in said program; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COLTNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
TEXAS:
Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all
things approved.
Section 2. That the Mayor, City Manager, or other appropriate City official, sha11 be and
is hereby authorized to execute any and all documents, including appropriate applications, letter
of support, or other instruments associated with the City of Paris and the Main Street Board
applying for participation in the Texas Historic Commission Visionaries in Preservation Program.
Section 3. That this resolution shall be effective from and after its date of passage.

Join the Visionaries in Preservation Program
The Ysionaries in Preservation Program offers many
opportunities for communities, professionals and volunteers to
join this innovative effort for Texas. Communities can apply to
formally participate in the program or receive technical
assistance on existing preservation planning adivities.
Professionals, volunteers, and students can use their
knowledge and expertise to help communfties visualize and
plan for a vital future using historic preservation. Read on to
find out how you can be a"Visionary."
Communities
Communities interested in formally participating in the program must first build a base of local support
for visianing. The program requires a local steering committee that will coordinate local efforts before
application is made. Committee members should represent a wide range of stakeholders and be
willing to secure commitments to promote and support the program's activities in the community.
Appiirations for the program are accepted annually in May. Up to four communities are selected based
upon readiness to begin, local support, historic resources and other relevant fadors. See the

deadlines.
Students and Professionals
The Visionaries in PreservaGon Program is an innovative, capacity building initiative for historic
preservation grounded in citizen leadership and indusive participation. We encourage professionals,
volunteers and graduate students to participate in several ways:
• Serve on an interdisciplinary advisory team to work with staff in selecting communities for the
program;
• Join a planning team and work hands-on with communities to aide in understanding technicai
issues and develop action plans;
• Help organize and facilitate community-wide visioning workshops in participating communities;
. Intern with the program and receive valuable experience in historic preservation and
community-based planning
We are looking for architects, planners and facilitators experienced with group design process and
charrette techniques, as well as individuals with experience in historic preservation, dispute resolution,
community planning, real estate law and economic development. Check out the Visio_nary
