08/20/2014 MINUTESParis Public Library Advisory Board Meeting Minutes August 20, 2014 Opening: The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order at 4:00 p.m. Present: Board members present were Fran Neeley, Connie Dodd, Denise Kornegay, Mike Pendleton, Rebecca Umphrey, and director Priscilla McAnally. Absent were Carol James and Ann Norment. I. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as presented. II. New Business: A. Change to Half -price Wednesday. All fines paid on Wednesdays will be half -price rather than only for books turned in on Wednesdays. B. Trust funds update. Expendable trust balance — $85,424; Permanent trust balance — $90,062. The interest from the Permanent fund goes into the Expendable fund. III. Old Business: A. The roof has been repaired — at a cost of $6250. There is another area which needs to be repaired the approximate cost will be $700. Recommendation to take $2,750 from Expendable trust to add to the $4200 from the Buildings & Grounds line to cover roof repair. Leaves the current balance of $92.75 in the Buildings and Grounds budget for the remainder of the fiscal year. Motion by Connie Dodd; second by Denise Komegay. Motion passed unanimously. IV. Presentations A. Budget Report. The August budget report showed overages in three budget lines — Technical processing ($567.40), Media — Books, CDs, Film, etc. ($3,230.43), and Training and Tuition ($9.00). B. Statistical Report shows that both circulation and visits are up again over last year. Circulation increased 5.54 %, and visits increased by 7.46 %. Ms. McAnally brought our attention to the statistics for Freegal music and video statistics and explained these services. Several board members weren't aware of these services. V. Friends of the Library: No members of Friends were there to report, but Ms. McAnally informed us that the Friends are purchasing new patron cards and DVD cases for the library. VI. Director's Remarks: Ms. McAnally talked about the overdue item project staff is working on currently. There are more than 2000 books overdue with many of them "long" overdue. A new part-time clerk will start on Monday, August 25. There were 48 people who attended Reavis Wortham's book signing on August 9. The publicity for the book signing and children's programming during the summer was very good. The October meeting has been rescheduled for October 29 due to Ms. McAnally's well - deserved vacation.
