14-F Main St. Adv. (05-24-04) MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD Monday, May 24, 2004 City Hall Annex 1S0 1st Street South East Break Room 2:30 p.m. 1. Lindsey Harper called meeting to order at 2:40 p.m. Present Board Members: Pike Burkhart, Sr., Suzy Harper, Zach Saffle, Linda Suarez, Karen Wilkerson, and Barbara Wilson Absent Board Members: Bailey Gant, Cari Johnson, Renee Harvey, David House 2. The minutes from the April 21st meeting were approved with a motion by Suzy Harper and seconded by Barbara Wilson. 3. Nominations were made for officers for the Main Street Advisory Board and a motion was made by Suzy Harper and seconded by Karen Wilkerson for the election of the following positions: A. Chairman - Zach Saffle B. Vice Chairman - Barbara Wilson C. Secretary - Linda Suarez 4. Lots were drawn for the remaining board members that were absent at the April 21st meeting: Bailey Gant - 3 years (Term expires March 31, 2007) Cari Johnson - 1 year (Term expires March 31, 2005) Renee Harvey - 2 years (Term expires March 31, 2006) 5. A. Lindsey Harper asked for volunteers for the Festival of Pumpkins subcommittee. Linda Suarez and Suzy Harper volunteered to serve on the board. The subcommittee will meet Main Street Advisory Board May 24, 2004 Page 2 within the next two weeks for a kick off meeting. B. Lindsey Harper stated that the Farmer's Market is now the responsibility of Main Street. Judy Kay Ambs was in charge of the Farmer's Market for the past eight years. Lindsey Harper has submitted the application to the Texas Department of Health,WIC Program. We are now waiting on their signature for WIC cards to be valid at the Farmer's Market. The Market will open June 1st and run through September 30, 2004, pending approval of the application. C. Lindsey Harper will talk to the Downtown Merchants regarding placing emblems on storefronts outlining the history of downtown buildings. This would be the primary phase of the Historic Downtown Walking Tour. The Board felt it would be appropriate to award plaques to different store and property owners for their outstanding support and dedication to downtown on an annual or bi-annual basis. Lindsey Harper will discuss the Downtown Merchant's opinions and suggestions at the next Main Street meeting. D. The Visionaries in Preservation Program application is to be mailed tomorrow, May 25th, in order to meet the THC's deadline. Suzy Harper thanked the board for the letters of support. Barbara Wilson reported on her findings of other successful cities that are involved in the Visionaries in Preservation Program. She remarked that many communities have learned that although it is a time consuming process, it is definitely worth the work to see the on going results which are being established and mastered in a timely manner. 6. Barbara Wilson requested that the PJC parking lot be placed on the next agenda as well as a possible date and discussion for a "Whine and Cheese" gathering with the Downtown Merchants. 7.
