Meeting Minutes
September 17, 2014
Opening:
The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order at 4:00 p.m.
Present:
Board members present were Fran Neeley, Connie Dodd, Denise Kornegay, Ann Norment, Rebecca
Umphrey, Carol James and director Priscilla McAnally. Amanda Green from the Friends of the Library
was also in attendance. Absent was Mike Pendleton.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as presented.
Il. New Business:
A. Operating hours change. After January 1, 2015, library hours will change on Mondays
and Thursdays. New hours will be Monday —1:00 -6:00 (staff reports 9:00 -6:00) and
Thursday — 9:00 -6:00. There will be no loss of hours, but the hours will be redistributed
on those two days.
III. Old Business:
None
IV. Presentations:
A. Budget Report. The September report shows that expenditures are approximately
$10,000 over budget, primarily in Materials.
B. Statistical Report. Both circulation and visits are up again over last year. Circulation
increased 2.96 %, and visits increased by 0.94 %.
V. Friends of the Library:
Amanda Green from Friends of the Library reported the following:
A. The Friends have a Facebook page, and they have money to spend for the library.
B. Friends hosted a program called Wonder Kids based on a series of books. There was
low participation, but the children in attendance enjoyed it very much.
C. A possible fundraiser for the conservation and restoration of the paintings in the library
was mentioned.
VI. Director's Remarks:
Beginning with the October meeting, members of the staff will meet with the board to
introduce themselves and describe their roles and responsibilities.
There are plans to publicize Freegal more and possibly host a Bring Your Own Device
(BYOD) program.
