SUBJECT: CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION APPOINTMENT
DATE: January 21, 2015
BACKGROUND: Because our police and fire departments operate under a civil service system,
we are required to have a local three- member civil service commission. Members' terms vary in
length, so do not expire at one time. Melba Harris recently completed a three -year term on the
commission and indicated she does not wish to be re- appointed.
STATUS OF ISSUE: At this point, we are recommending Sims Norment. Mr. Norment has
served on the commission in the past and expressed a willingness to serve again.
BUDGET: NA.
RECOMMENDATION: Appoint new commission member.
