The Airport Advisory Board meeting was called to order by Jack Ashmore, Chairman at
6:00 p.m.
A. The following members were present:
Ray Ball
Jack Ashmore
Billy Copeland
Fred Williams
Jerry Coyle
B. The following members were absent:
Steve Gilbert
Phillip Payne
C. Also present was Shawn Napier, Airport Director; John Godwin, City Manager;
Arjumand Hashmi, Mayor; and Ashley Fendley, City Staff.
2. Approval of minutes from previous meetings. (October 18, 2012)
Motion was made by Ray Ball, seconded by Billy Copeland to approve the meeting
minutes for October 18, 2012. Motion carried 5 -0.
3. Report from Shawn Napier, Airport Director:
A. Status ofAirport Improvements — Shawn Napier made a report to the advisory board
members. Mr. Napier stated that Phase I and II of the construction work is complete at
the airport. Mr. Napier presented to the advisory board members a copy of the Cox
Field portion of the city manager strategic plan for the City of Paris. Mr. Napier
further stated to the advisory board members if they had any comments or concerns
about the strategic plan to let him know; it will be presented at the City Council
meeting on January 14, 2013 for consideration. Advisory board members asked if the
airport plans are on regular schedule. Shawn Napier stated the airport layout plan was
approved about six weeks ago.
4. Report and discussion on a presentation by Mayor Hashmi regarding advertising and
future development at Cox Field.
Mayor Hashmi stated he needs some help on what the airport advisory board wants to
construct. Mayor Hashmi also stated he has looked into building an avionics shop, paint
shop, and upholstery shop at the airport. The concerns of the advisory board members are
that they need more hangars; the others are a plus but hangars are their money makers.
Mayor Hashmi suggested for the board to come up with a plan on what they are wanting
to do, the cost of the total project and what the income will be to present it to Council.
Jack Ashmore stated to the mayor that the airport advisory board will come up with a
proposal to present to the Council.
Jerry Coyle stated that the Boy Scouts sent the airport advisory board a thank you card for
letting them park cars at the Cox Field Fly -In.
5. Request for future agenda items. Lease issues and building cost for hangars.
