Meeting Minutes
January 21, 2015
Opening:
The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order at 4:10 p.m.
Present:
Board members present were Connie Dodd, Denise Kornegay, Ann Norment, Rebecca Umphrey,
Carol James and director Priscilla McAnally. Amanda Green from the Friends of the Library was
also in attendance. Absent were Fran Neeley and Mike Pendleton.
I. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as presented.
II. New Business:
A. Paula Rater, Clerk II — Paula has been with the library for 13 years. Her duties
include circulation, book repair, processing, displays, and shelving children's
books.
B. Ron Hervey, Library Supervisor — Ron has been with the library for 16 years. He
started the computer system and now helps with computer needs for the staff and
patrons. He supervises staff and helps Priscilla wherever needed. He manages the
Library's Facebook account and the website. He has logged over 1,000 "helps"
with computer use in the library including Internet, email, Word, and e- books. He
also participates in a Writer's Group which meets monthly at the library. He
shared that Reavis Wortham will join them on March 28 for a writer's workshop.
III. Old Business:
None
IV. Presentations:
A. Budget Report. Priscilla reported that she has spent $55,000 in books already this
fiscal year. She is thankful for a generous budget which allows for many extra
services including Interlibrary Loan, a service that many libraries our size have
had to cut.
B. Statistical Report: There were significant increases in both circulation and library
visits over last year with a circulation increase of 14.75 %, and library visits
increased by 21.76 %. Many other statistics showed increases as well.
V. Friends of the Library:
Amanda Green from Friends of the Library reported the following:
A. There is increased traffic on the Friends Facebook page.
B. Friends are working with Sydney Young on a One Book/One Town event.
C. Library calendars and tote bags are available.
VI. Director's Remarks:
Helen Houp has reported progress in the restoration of the artwork.
The annual State Public Library report has been submitted to the Texas State Library
as well as the annual report to the American Library Association.
The new library hours seem to be working well.
