Paris Public Library Advisory Board <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 15, 2015 <br />Opening: <br />The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order at 4:05 p.m. <br />Present: <br />Board members present were Fran Neely, Connie Dodd, Denise Kornegay, Rebecca Umphrey, <br />Carol James, Ann Norment, Friends of the Library president Amanda Green, and director <br />Priscilla McAnally. Absent was Mike Pendleton. <br />I. Approval of Minutes: <br />The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved. <br />II. New Business: <br />A. Board term expiring in June — Ann Norment's term will end in June. She has the <br />option of applying to serve another term. Board members can serve two <br />consecutive terms. <br />B. One Book, One Read — Little Women by Louisa May Alcott has been selected as <br />the book for the city to read together. Several events are planned including the <br />kick -off in August with the Paris Community Theater presentation of the musical <br />based on the book. This effort is sponsored by the Library, the Friends of the <br />Library, the Library Board, and Paris Community Theater. <br />III. Old Business: <br />None <br />IV. Presentations: <br />A. Budget Report — As of April 8, $35,132 is left in budget line for materials for the <br />library. Approximately 54% of the year's budget has been expended at this time <br />which is on track for the year. Additionally, a water heater had to be replaced this <br />month using funds from the Buildings and Grounds budget. <br />B. Statistical Report — Both circulation and library visits increased over last year <br />with a circulation increase of 7.61 %, and library visits increased by 12.19 %. <br />V. Friends of the Library: <br />The Friends are planning to help purchase 10 laptop computers and a charging cart to <br />be used for a planned computer lab. Currently, computer instruction takes place in the <br />computer area near the circulation desk. With Wi -Fi access in the Gallery, classes can <br />take place in an area away from the other patrons and circulation desk. <br />VI. Director's Remarks: <br />Priscilla reported that she met with Shawn Napier, the city engineer, to check the <br />basement to see if it could be used for library expansion in the future. Original <br />blueprints will need to be reviewed to concerning the depth of some support columns. <br />
