13-Roof BidsItem No. 13
memorandum
TO: City Council
John Godwin, City Manager
FROM: Gene Anderson, Finance Director
SUBJECT: ROOF BIDS FOR CITY HALL, W. ANNEX, & N. ANNEX
DATE: March 22, 2016
BACKGROUND: The heavy rains of recent months have revealed serious leaks in the roofs of
these three buildings resulting in visible interior damage which will have to be repaired. None of
these buildings have had a complete new roof put on during my 30 years at the City, though they
have been patched and repaired on numerous occasions.
STATUS OF ISSUE: Inspection of the roofs has revealed that continued stop gap repairs would
be an inefficient use of funds. Therefore, specifications were prepared and bids were taken for
roof replacement of all three buildings. Bids were received from three of the seven companies
who inquired about the project, but one bidder withdrew his bid.
BUDGET: The lowest bid was from Premiere Roofing, Inc. in the amount of $258,897. This
expense was not anticipated for the 2015 -16 fiscal year. Therefore, the staff requests that
payment for this work be made from General Fund reserves.
RECOMMENDATION: Motion to approve the bid from Premiere Roofing in the amount of
$258,897 with funds coming from General Fund reserves.
