04B - NATIONAL POLICE WEEK PROCLAMATIONmemorandum TO: City Council John Godwin, City Manager FROM: Bob Hundley, Chief of Police SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION OF NATIONAL POLICE WEEK MAY 15TH _ 21sT DATE: May 9th, 2016 BACKGROUND: In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. STATUS OF ISSUE: National Police week has been set this year to begin on May 15, police memorial day and conclude on May 21St. BUDGET: There is no impact to the budget. RECOMMENDATION: Proclaim May 15th through the 21St as Police Week in the city of Paris.
