Item No. 11 <br />memorandum <br />TO: Mayor & City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Janice Ellis, City Clerk <br />SUBJECT: GENERAL ELECTION CANVASSING OF RETURNS <br />DATE: May 10, 2016 <br />BACKGROUND: On January 25, 2016, by Resolution Number 2016 -004, City Council ordered <br />the regular municipal election for the purpose of voters to elect Council Members from Districts <br />1, 2, 3 and 6. On March 2, 2016, the City Clerk issued a certificate of unopposed candidates for <br />Districts 1, 2, and 3. On March 14, 2016, by Ordinance No. 2016 -010, City Council declared <br />Council Members for District 1, 2, and 3 elected to office. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: On May 7, 2016, a general election took place for the purpose of electing <br />a Council Member in District 6. A total of 283 votes were cast, with Cleonne "Holmes" Drake <br />receiving a total of 148 votes and Edwin Pickle receiving a total of 135 votes. Cleonne <br />"Holmes" Drake received the majority of votes cast. <br />BUDGET: N/A <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution declaring Cleonne Holmes Drake elected to <br />serve as City Council Member for District 6. <br />
