At the June 11 city council meeting, attorney Bill Flanary, representing the Stripland family, made a brief presentation during citizens' input in which he requested that the city council formally address his clients' concerns about the amount of their mo lh meting for you o take pogs b e a~ti n.t request and as a result this agenda rtem was added to the counc The Striplands and a few other families connected onto the city's sewer system illegally more than ten years ago, and there have been numerous misunderstandings since that time, including a refund by the city of sewer fees in June 2009. The reason the fees were refunded was not that they should not have been paid, however, but the mistaken belief by the city that no sewer service was being provided (since the original connection was completed without the city's knowledge or permission). In March of this year, a letter was sent to the Striplands advising them they would again be assessed a sewer charge since they do use the city's sewer service. They contend they should not be assessed a full fee since they had to pay for some of their own infrastructure, and have indicated to Gene Anderson that $25.00 per month might be more appropriate than the currently charged monthly average of $31.36.
