I want to propose tonight the idea of the modified "Street of Dreams" and what the idea involves
is the following:
On Pine Bluff Street, we organize a rejuvenation project where the city helps the residents in
bringing the old glory back by assisting residents of that area.
1. We assist residents of that area by allowing them easy deliverability of permits for
renovations.
2. Waiving of permitting fees for those who want to improve the homes in that area.
3. Offer our home loan improvement program through the banks that is already in place.
4. Start strict code enforcement.
5. Cleanup city owned properties on that street, and maintain them.
6. Give tax abatements (which actually already exist) on improvements that are made and inform
and assist local residents on how to obtain and apply for them.
While the city takes these steps, we the residents of the street participate and organize a
showcase of homes by those wishing to participate in the "Street Of Dreams."
By Thanksgiving time of 2017, we clean up our homes; our yards and redo whatever we can to
make the street and our homes look pretty. Subsequently, we can participate in a contest where
the best yards, the most cleanup, and the best renovations, all are awarded.
Homes will be opened for tours by homeowners who wish to participate.
An award of $5,000 dollars is being donated by a generous donor for the home that gets the most
votes based on criterion which will be set forth by the organizing committee.
Now the question comes as to why this street was chosen and others were not. The answer to
that is that it most certainly can be applied to other areas.
1. This street however is a very travelled street and would make a visible difference in our
town because of all the traffic.
2. The city is already spending a lot of money on its improvements and this could become a
pilot project for other streets.
3. The project is coming to its completion in the near future.
4. At one time this was a very glorious street.
5. It really has a lot of homes that require improvement on a heavily travelled street.
