Consideration of and action on the following Certificate of Appropriateness:
A. 4071" Street S. W. — Mary Ann Campbell, property owner, presented the petition.
Ms. Campbell stated they are remodeling the interior of the building to utilize it as
climate control storage. They are proposing an addition of a portico for clients to
pull under and unload. Ms. Campbell further stated that staff had informed her
that metal materials are not appropriate building materials for this structure.
However, she felt they would get the most wear if the roof was metal which is
what the interior is being constructed from. Chairman Denney stated he had
concerns over continuity, the proposed portico has pitch roof and the building
currently has a parapet wall and flat roof. Chairman Denney further stated it is
our responsibility as a commission to maintain historic integrity and the roof
proposed looks more like it belongs on residential structure. Britin Bostick
explained how the portico should be constructed to Ms. Campbell. The roof
should have a brick parapet which mimics what is currently on the building with
the roof slanting for drainage to the southeast side. Ben Vaughan stated that the
glass doors appear to be metal and glass construction and would not meet
guidelines. Mr. Vaughan further stated the doors could be constructed of wood
