MINUTES <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />WEDNESDAY, JULY 13, 2011 <br />12:00 O'CLOCK P.M. <br />1. The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by Arvin Starrett, <br />Chairman at 12:00 p.m. <br />A. The following members were present: <br />Arvin Starrett, Chairman <br />Paul Denney, Vice - Chairman <br />Douglas Cox <br />Ben Vaughan <br />Matt Coyle <br />Nancy Anderson <br />David Stewart <br />B. The following members were absent: <br />None <br />C. Also present were Jeanna Scott, Historic Preservation Officer; and Cheri Bedford, <br />Main Street Manager. <br />2. Consideration of and action on the following Certificate of Appropriateness: <br />B. 115 South Main Street — Jennifer Bethea, business owner, represented the petition. <br />Ms. Bethea stated they recently purchased Creative Candy Designs. They will be <br />reinstalling the awning with a new canvas awning right below the transom <br />windows. Chairman Starrett asked will it be a tailored rectangle awning, single <br />color. Matt Coyle stated this canopy will be done by Kevin with Quality Tarps <br />and Awnings, which is the same person that did the awnings at Peoples Bank, <br />Vital Beet, and the ones located on South Main Street. Ben Vaughan asked will <br />the awning clear the side walk by 8 feet. Ms. Bethea stated they will come out <br />and get accurate measurements prior to installation. Motion was made by Ben <br />Vaughan, seconded by Matt Coyle to approve the COA subject to the color being <br />black or brown and the leading edge of the awning clearing the sidewalk eight <br />feet. Motion carried 7 -0. <br />C. 102 Lamar Avenue — Candace Mayer, business owner, represented the petition. <br />Ms. Mayer stated she wants to place an under canopy sign at the front of her <br />business and it will clear the side walk eight feet. The sign will be an oval not a <br />rectangle, and the color will be more turquoise than blue. Chairman Starrett <br />asked will this sign hang perpendicular to the building or longitudinally to the <br />building, in other words are you proposing it to be placed across the sidewalk <br />
