Lamar County Multi- Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan
<br />Chapter Three
<br />The county has had no reported deaths to be caused by flash flooding. Lamar County
<br />Emergency Management concludes that county citizens who live in affected areas are aware of
<br />the dangers, thus resulting in the low human casualty rate. With early warning from the National
<br />Weather service, Lamar County is able to activate response personnel in a timely manner to
<br />prevent loss of life with a minimal loss to property. These citizens to need to reminded that
<br />even one inch of flood water in a home can cause considerable damage as shown in Table 3.6a

<br />THUNDERSTORMS
<br />Lamar County has had 62 strong thunderstorm /high wind events recorded with damages
<br />totaling $432,250.00 and 3 major lightning events totaling $590,000.00 in damages. Therefore,
<br />based on these values, it is concluded that the County can experience an estimated potential
<br />dollar loss of $8,496.00 for each strong thunderstorm event that includes high wind and /or
<br />lightning.
<br />WINTER STORMS
<br />The county has experienced 8 significant witner storms of varied intensities that consisted of
<br />snow and /or ice between 2000 and 2012. Snow - blocked and ice - covered roads not only make
