Lamar County Multi- Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan <br />Chapter Two <br />PHASE 2- Risk and Vulnerability Assessment: <br />The Risk and Vulnerability Assessment Phase included identifying and profiling all hazards <br />affecting Lamar County over the past 100 years or more. An in -depth history of Lamar County to <br />document disasters was carried out by local historian, Skipper Steely. <br />An initial Lamar County Hazard Mitigation Survey was developed to garner Lamar County citizen's <br />concerns toward natural hazards. <br />Public involvement is an important aspect of hazard mitigation planning in order to understand <br />what the citizens of Lamar County perceive as hazards to their wellbeing. An email survey was sent <br />to Lamar County residents asking for their opinion of which hazards they are most concerned. The <br />survey consisted of 18 questions designed to reveal the public perception of which potential <br />hazards most concerned residents, if they had ever been impacted by a natural hazard, which <br />natural hazard had they experienced and how prepared they felt they were to deal with these <br />hazards. <br />The email survey was sent via Constant Contact to 910 randomly selected Lamar County residents. <br />Of the 910 survey's sent to residents in the county, 378 were opened, 213 were clicked through and <br />138 full responses were recorded. <br />Email survey questions and answers are listed below along with comments. <br />1. In which precinct of Lamar County do you live? <br />A copy of the Lamar County Hazard <br />Mitigation Survey is located in <br />Annex D. <br />Lamar County is divided into 4 precincts, with approximately equal population distribution in each <br />precinct. The chart shows response to the survey is distributed throughout Lamar County with a <br />greater response from Precinct 4 in the northeastern section of the county. <br />34 <br />
