located near the fueling ramp.
The Mayor and the Board expressed concern over the safety of the incoming
and landing aircraft at Cox Field when the immediate runway and Airport
property are being sprayed.
Mr. Collier stated that this usually occurred only twice a year.
The Mayor and Board discussed closing the Airport during the spraying of the
airport property. The person doing the spraying should make prior arrangements
in writing with the Airport Manager.
Mr. Boothe moved that a letter be written to the Paris City Council stating
the following:
1. Agricultural operations are in the public interest.
2. Agricultural operations are beneficial to Cox Field.
3. Agricultural operations should be allowed to continue at Cox Field.
4. Written procedures should be drawn up to insure that FAA Regulations
Part 91 and Part 137 are followed during agricultural operations
at Cox Field, particularly during the actual spraying of the Airport
property, so as to insure that no compromise of safety is made by
the agricultural pilots or airport management.
Kristina Campbell seconded the motion. Motion passed 4 -0.
Mayor Graham thanked the Board for their advise on agricultural operations
at Cox Field. This helps the City
to keep the weeds down and off the runway, Mr. Collier stated Mr. Wrenn
has his permission to do this.
Mrs. Campbell expressed her displeasure with Mr. Collier's failure to mention
this flying activity of Mr. Wrenn's while Mayor Graham was at the meeting.
Mrs. Campbell stated she was sure that emptying tanks of water and residual
chemical was not an agricultural operation as defined in FAR Part 137.
Dr. Keller wondered what the EPA rules concerning chemical disposal are and
what they would say about the chemical disposal method being used at Cox
Field.
2. DISCUSSION ON MEANS OF PROMOTING COX FIELD - Pat Ryan of the Paris Chamber
of Commerce was introduced to the board. Mr. Ryan discussed what the Chamber
of Commerce has done and could do in promoting the Airport.
Mr. Ryan suggested the Advisory Board hold a workshop with the Industrial
Committee, Visitor and Convention Council and Air Service Committee of the
Lamar County Chamber of Commerce. He also suggested Ridley Briggs, Leo
