Mr. Doty:
Mr. Doty's visit was postponed until May because Mr. Sudduth was not able
to attend the meeting.
3. F.A.A. REPORT ON COX FIELD:
Mr. Collier received a letter dated April 6, 1983 from Ben Harvey, Manager
Airport Safety Section of the Federal Aviation Administration. The letter
accompanied the Annual Certification Inspection March 2 -3, 1983 for Cox
Field. (Letter and Inspection Report enclosed).
Mr. Collier commented on the following items concerning the report.
A. The turf overgrow on the taxiways and runways is currently being removed.
B. The FAA has requested signs be installed on the taxiway to Runway 3/21
due to the buckling of the surface.
C. The FAA has recommended the joint sealing and cleaning be continued on
paved areas.
D. The FAA has recommended Runway 3/21 be closed. Mr. Collier recommended
that disucssion of this metter be placed on the Boards Agenda.
E. The non - standard taxiway and runway signs need to be replaced with proper
signs.
F. Light Standards on Runway 17/35 should be filled in with crushed stone.
G. The centerline of Runway 17/35 needs to be repainted before the next
annual inspection.
H. FAR 139 requires that fire and crash protection be provided within a
30 minute period if air carrier service is initiated at Cox Field.
4. AIRPORT SAFETY
Mrs. Campbell expressed concern for safety at the Airport. The traffic pattern
is not being followed and its use not inforced. The Cox Field Airport Operations
Manual and the City Ordinances pertaining to Cox Field give the Airport Manager
the authority and duty to inforce the rules and regulations. Mrs. Campbell
asked that the Board members support Mr. Collier in the quest for Airport
Safety.
Herbert Campbell noted that the Cox Field Airport traffic pattern which is
posted at the Airport is not up to date. The latest Airman's Information Manual
indicates a different pattern regarding the existing of the pattern. Mr.
Collier stated the pattern as posted was part of City Ordinance.
Mrs. Campbell suggested that this matter be studied by the Airport Board and
revised.
