May 24, 2004
Page 3
D. Karol Lyn and Hunter Moore - 135 Lamar Avenue. Karol Lyn Moore
provided the Commission with a copy of proposed signage that
consists of 12" plastic lettering to be located below the window sill by
the rosettes. The drawing included a sign located on the corner of the
building that Mrs. Moore said they had decided against; however, the
Commission advised Mrs. Moore that they liked this kind of sign.
Chairman Starrett stated that a sign on the corner would come more
closely to lending historical accuracy. Barbara Wilson recommended
that Mrs. Moore contact the Main Street Manager to have a request
placed with THC to recommend a sign design. With regard to the
request to remove paint, Chairman Starrett advised that the Standards
provide only for removal if it does not damage the masonry. Motion to
approve the Certificate of Appropriateness was made by Barbara
Wilson, seconded by Sue Lancaster, as follows: (1) request 1 is tabled,
and (2) requests 2, 3, and 4 are approved as presented. Motion carried
8 -0.
4. Discussion of and possible action regarding the following structures
considered by code inspectors to be in violation of Article 111 of Chapter 7 of
the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, entitled
"Substandard and Dangerous Buildings and Structures," to determine
whether such buildings or structures can be rehabilitated and designated on
the National Register of Historic Places, as a recorded Texas Historic
Landmark, or as historic property as designated by the City Council of the
City of Paris:
A. 7581st Street N.E. Motion to remove this item from the table was made
by Barbara Wilson, seconded by Claudia Hunt. Motion carried 8 -0.
Chairman Starrett stated that this is stylistically a shotgun, and Paul
Denney added that this was about all we had left. Motion to delay
action on this structure for 90 days was made by Paul Denney,
seconded by Sue Lancaster. Motion carried 8 -0.
B. 1366 W. Kaufman. Motion that this structure has historic value, is
restorable, and action should be delayed for 90 days was made by Sue
Lancaster, seconded by Brian Wear. Motion carried 8 -0.
C. 2830 E. Cherry Street. Motion that this structure has no historic value
and is not restorable was made by Paul Denney, seconded by Brian
Wear. Motion carried 8 -0.
