All illumination must be <br />steady and stationary. <br />Prohibited Signs <br />• Billboards, junior billboards, portable <br />signs (including torpedo signs), pole <br />signs, electric (or plastic) signs, cloud <br />buster balloons, inflatable device <br />signs, and advertising benches. <br />• Digital or LED -lighted signs, including <br />those with rotating or flashing lettering <br />or images. <br />Roof -mounted signs, or sky signs (as <br />defined in the City Code), except for <br />landmark signs or those approved by <br />the Historic Preservation, Commission. <br />Historic roof -mounted billboards may <br />be resurfaced if they were erected <br />legally and are recognized as historic <br />by the commission. Such signs' <br />square footage shall be included in <br />the total allowable signage for the <br />building. (Existing sky signs in the <br />downtown area are allowed to remain, <br />subject to the requirements for <br />nonconforming signs, but no new sky <br />signs will be allowed to be erected.) <br />Any sign abandoned for more than six <br />(6) months or damaged beyond fifty <br />(50) percent of its replacement value, <br />shall be removed, along with their <br />supports, brackets and braces. <br />Acceptable Sign Styles <br />Following is a sampling of sign <br />formats often found in historic <br />districts. All signs are subject to <br />approval by the Historic Preservation <br />Commission. <br />e Flush -mounted wall signs: Use type <br />fonts traditionally seen in the area; try <br />to limit the number of colors to three, <br />and, when possible, mount the sign so <br />that it aligns with others on the block. <br />o Projecting, or blade, signs- An <br />Design Standards for the City of Paris, Texas 76 <br />
