The total number of <br />signs shall be kept to a minimum. <br />Developing a signage plan for a multi - <br />tenant building is required for meeting <br />that requirement. <br />The total area of all signage shall not <br />exceed thirty-six (36) square inches <br />per running foot of store frontage for <br />each facade, for a total of no more <br />than fifty (50) square feet. If the <br />facadle's proportions support <br />additional signagle, the Historic <br />Preservation Commission may <br />approve it. <br />When computing the area of a sign, <br />the measurement shall include all <br />borders. Bracing and support <br />structures are not included in figuring <br />the area. In the case of channel letter <br />signs, the determining area shall be <br />the smallest rectangle that will <br />contain all the writing. For signs with <br />more than one (1) sign face, such as <br />double-faced, back-to-back, <br />overhanging and projecting signs, <br />each side of the Sign shall be <br />included in total allowable signage <br />area. <br />• Signs that direct the, reader to a <br />specific place or along a specific <br />course, such as "entrance," "exit," <br />and "handicap access," shall not <br />count toward the total allowable <br />signage area. Emergency signs are <br />exempt. <br />• Sign illumination may be provided by <br />indirect, internal, or bare -bulb lighting, <br />provided there is no resulting glare; <br />by indirect lighting employing a hood <br />or diffuser; or by internal illlumination <br />using opal glass or another <br />translucent material (excluding <br />plastic) that transmits an equal or <br />lesser amouint of light. "Glare" is <br />defined as an illumination level of at <br />BILLBOARD <br />Design Standards for the, City of Paris, Texas 75 <br />
