This style <br />was primarily used for architect -designed <br />buildings in major metropolitan areas. <br />Characteristics include: <br />• low-pitched ceramic the hip roofs <br />• wide overhangs with decorative brackets <br />• first story window dominance <br />• entry accented by columns or pilasters <br />Mission style architecture began in California in <br />the 1890s and later spread across the <br />southwestern United States through national <br />builders' magazines.
