Regular Council Meeting <br />February 25, 2019 <br />Page 4 <br />the people wanted. Council Member Knox expressed appreciation to the residents who came to <br />the meeting and said she was fine with the grassy strip remaining. Council Member Trenado <br />said he wanted what the people wanted. Council Member Stone said she was for what the <br />majority of the people wanted but they could not keep changing their mind because of the project <br />timeline. Council Member Hughes said would want to table this in order to be able to speak to <br />everyone and the city engineer, but progression of the project gave him no time to do so. Mr. <br />Godwin said the original recommendation of staff was to have the green space between the <br />sidewalk and the street, and that was also in the design plan for the project. Council Member <br />Portugal said she had heard from the person who wanted this changed and was told she would <br />not oppose this change if that is what the majority wanted. <br />A Motion to go back to the green strip was made by Council Member Knox and seconded <br />by Council Member Trenado. Motion carried, 6 ayes — 1 nay, with Council Member Hughes <br />casting the dissenting vote. <br />18. Discuss and act on ORDINANCE NO. 2019-012: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY <br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS; ;TEXAS DECLARING . UNOPPOSED <br />CANDIDATES IN CITY COUNCIL DISTRICTS 4, 5, AND 7 FOR THE MAY 4, 2019 <br />GENERAL ELECTION BE ELECTED TO OFFICE; DETERMINING THAT NO <br />GENERAL ELECTION BE HELD IN DISTRICTS 4, 5 AND 7; DIRECTING THAT A <br />COPY OF THIS ORDINANCE BE :POSTED AT THE APPROPRIATE POLLING <br />PLACES; DIRECTING THAT A CERTIFICATE OF ELECTION BE ISSUED TO THE <br />UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS <br />RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; PROVIDING A REPEALER CLAUSE, A <br />SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, A SAVINGS '''CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />Mr. Godwin said council member candidates for Districts 4, 5 and 7 were unopposed and <br />the deadline had passed to make application to be on the ballot. He said the special election was <br />still scheduled for May 4, 2019. <br />A Motion to approve this item was made by Mayor Clifford and seconded by Council <br />Member Pilgrim. Motion carried, 7 ayes — 0 nays. <br />19. Consider and approve future events for City Council and/or City Staff pursuant to <br />Resolution No. 2004-081. <br />Council Member Trenado reminded everyone of the upcoming Kiwanis Pancake Days. <br />20. Adjournment. <br />There being no further business, a Motion to adjourn was made by Mayor Clifford and <br />was seconded by Council Member Hughes. Motion carried, 7 ayes — 0 nays. The meeting was <br />adjourned at 5:54 p.m. <br />
