Lee states this is a new class of business that is growing with a low barrier to entry. He
hopes that too many restrictions are not put in place that will prevent start-ups. He states
food trucks should be allowed as long -as they meet the fire marshal and health
department standards as well as have permission to park on the property. Lee states food
trucks serve well for big events like the Tour de Paris, Archery Tournament and Pumpkin
Festival. Lee further states having these type of food vendors available make these events
more attractive.
Public hearing was declared open.
Audie Earley, 350 SE 32nd Street, states he has been a food truck owner since 2016. Since 2016, they have been able to build a clientele and now they are
planning to open a brick and mortar restaurant downtown. He states one thing to be aware
of is that if all these restrictions are imposed upon landowners and the business owners to
have to put in electricity and restroom facilities, he can practically assure you that no one
is going to want to do that. Earley further states he is in favor of some regulations and he
would like to see a copy of the draft ordinance. Earley suggested having a public forum
for food truck owners to have some input before moving forward with an ordinance.
Public hearing was declared closed.
Motion was made by Keith Flowers, seconded by Rick Hundley to table this item until
the May 6th Planning and Zoning meeting.
