<br />PARIS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT <br />MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING <br /> <br />This agreement is entered into by and between the Paris <br />Independent School District, as fiscal agent, hereinafter <br />called PISD and the City Hall, hereinafter called Paris <br />Public Library. <br /> <br />PURPOSE: <br /> <br />The purpose of this memorandum of understanding is to <br />outline arrangements for the prov1s10n of project Even <br />Start, a family literacy program designed to improve the <br />educational opportunities of the Nation's children and <br />adul ts by integrating early childhood education and adult <br />education for parents into a unified program, for eligible <br />students within the boundaries of the five school districts <br />in Lamar county. The Even Start program will become <br />operational on August 2, 1993 with program implementation <br />to begin in October, 1993. <br /> <br />INDEMNIFICATION: <br /> <br />To the extent authorized by the laws and Constitution of <br />the State of Texas, the Paris Public Library indemnifies <br />and holds PISD harmless against any and all claims, demands <br />damages, liabilities and costs incurred by PISD which <br />directly or indirectly result from, or arises in connection <br />with, any act or omission of the Paris Public Library, its <br />agents or employees, in performing obligations hereunder. <br />PISD indemnifies and holds the Paris Public Library and its <br />officers, agents and employees harmless against all claims, <br />demands, damages, liabilities, and costs incurred by the <br />Paris Public Library which directly or indirectly result <br />from or arise in connection with, any act or omission of <br />PISD's obligation hereunder. <br /> <br />SERVICES TO BE PERFORMED: <br /> <br />All parties involved in Project Even Start will work <br />cooperatively to achieve the goals which include: <br /> <br />1. To provide family centered education projects that <br />help parents become full partners in the education <br />of their children. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />To assist children <br />education in reaching <br />learners. <br /> <br />receiving early childhood <br />their full potential as <br /> <br />3. To provide literacy training for parents of family <br />units participating in the project. <br /> <br />EXHIBIT.-A <br />
