(3) To prevent the introduction of pollutants into the city wastewater system which will <br />interfere with the operation of the system or contaminate the resulting sludge; <br />(4) To prevent the introduction of pollutants into the municipal wastewater system which <br />will pass through the system, inadequately treated, into the receiving waters or the <br />atmosphere or otherwise be incompatible with the system; <br />(5) To improve the opportunity to recycle and reclaim wastewater and sludges from the <br />system; and, <br />(6) To provide for the equitable distribution of the cost of the municipal wastewater system. <br />(7) To prevent the introduction of pollutants into or adjacent to the waters of the state within <br />the city and its jurisdiction. <br />(8) To monitor and regulate the generation and disposal of industrial and hazardous wastes <br />(9) To prevent the disposal of wastes within the city and its jurisdiction in a manner which <br />causes a hazard to human health or the environment or creates a public nuisance. <br />(b) It is the intent of the city to provide needed sewer service to all users while meeting the out- <br />lined objectives. This article provides the structure under which the service will be provided <br />for certain types of non-domestic wastes, domestic wastes, and industrial wastes, so that the <br />POTW and the environment are protected and the POTW can continue to provide efficiently <br />for the waste treatment needs of the city. <br />See. 34-53. - Abbreviations. <br />The following abbreviations used in this article shall have the designated meanings: <br />BODS <br />— Five (5) Day Biochemical Oxygen Demand. <br />BMPs <br />Best Management Practices. <br />CERCLA <br />— Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act. <br />CFR <br />— Code of Federal Regulations. <br />COD <br />— Chemical Oxygen Demand. <br />CWF <br />— Combined Wastestream Formula. <br />Page 3 of 45 <br />
