<br />APPROVED PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br />DWI STEP <br /> <br />I. AUTHORIZATION: <br /> <br />This contract implements Task A of 9l-0l-G2 'ot the 'PY9--n <br />Highway Safety Plan. <br /> <br />II. PROBLEM STATEMENT: <br /> <br />The Save City/Save County Index for Driving While Intoxicated <br />(DWI) accidents that appear in the annual Highway Safety Plan <br />ranks Texas cities and counties with respect to the severity <br />of the problem. This Contractor is on that list with an Index <br />Number of Several roadways within this <br />jurisdiction have demonstrated a significant over- <br />representation of accidents. <br /> <br />III. OBJECTIVES: <br /> <br />A. To reduce the rate (%) of DWI involvement in fatal and <br />injury accidents by 10# by the end of the contract <br />period. <br /> <br />B. To increase the monthly average number of DWI's arrested <br />jurisdiction-wide by % when compared to the monthly <br />average for the previous 24 months. <br /> <br />Nothing in this agreement shall be interpreted as a <br />requirement, formal or informal, that a police officer issue <br />a specified or predetermined number of citations in pursuance <br />of the Contractor's obligations hereunder. <br /> <br />IV. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONTRACTOR: <br /> <br />A. Carry out the objectives of this contract by implementing <br />the Operational Plan and the Action Plan in this <br />attachment. <br /> <br />B. Submit all newly developed public information and <br />education material for written approval from the <br />Department prior to final production. Reproduction of <br />National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or other <br />governmental endorsed material is permissible without <br />Department approval. ' <br /> <br />C. An Administrative Evaluation summarizing all activities <br />and accompli~hments will be submitted on Department <br />approved forms, no later than 45 days after the contract <br />ending date. <br /> <br />page 1 of 4 <br /> <br />EXHIBIT A <br />
