Regular Council Meeting <br />July 27, 2020 <br />Page 2 <br />Taisley Scroggin, W. Houston — thanked City Council for their decision on Beshirs <br />Construction, supported Gary Savaged for District 3 and advocated for a Police Oversight <br />Committee led by the community. <br />Bill Sanders, 3275 Eagle Bend — introduced himself and asked for consideration to an <br />appointment to the Board of Adjustment. <br />Carlos Hernandez, 3710 Leigh Dr., graduate student — he spoke about re-entry into the <br />community of those who had been incarcerated and possibly finding them community service <br />through the parole office. <br />Chevis High, 2600 block of Pope St. - he spoke in support of Gary Savage. <br />Joseph Nelms, 690-S.E.1" Street, former captain at the police department — he spoke in <br />support of Gary Savage for City Council District 3. <br />Larry Walker, 100 20th S.E., - he introduced himself and asked for consideration to an <br />appointment of the Board of Adjustment. <br />Alice Hearne, 795 -28th N.W. - she spoke in support of her Pastor, Gary Savage. <br />Embry Glenn — he expressed concern about his street, which was 17th Street. He said it <br />was torn up, put back together and torn up again, and it was supposed to be repaired. He <br />referenced speeders and that two kids had been hit by cars. <br />Ashley Hostetler, District 7 - she thanked City Council for listening to the community <br />and said she supported Gary Savage. She also supported a community police committee. <br />Joshua Holt, graduate student at A&M — he said there was a lot of concern about <br />addiction, all kinds of addiction and that he would like to advocate assisting or initiating a means <br />to centralize the available resources. <br />Sims Norment, 606 Church Street — he encouraged City Council to approve the resolution <br />increasing board members to seven. He said all other city boards had seven members. <br />Billy Harris, 1815 Cleveland, — he said his experience with the police was they were not <br />very well trained with Down syndrome and other cognitive disabilities. He gave an example of a <br />man wandering around the loop who had Down syndrome and he did not like to be touched, so if <br />someone touched him on the back that would be a trigger point that would set him off. Mr. <br />Harris said it would be helpful if information like this could be given to the police department <br />from the Red River Down Syndrome Society. <br />Pamela Further — the owner of a 501c nonprofit basketball organization, a teacher and <br />coach at PISD — he endorsed Gary Savage, citing Mr. Savage goes into the community and is <br />involved, that he was a leader and a mentor. <br />
