c. Ms. Ruthart reported to the Board that the PHA won the eviction case that was previously won
in Justice of the Peace Court. This case is regarding a tenant that is harassing other tenants at the
George Wright Homes complex.
d. Mrs. Ruthart updated the Board of Commissioners of the Opening of the Section 8 Waiting
List and asked them to feel free to pass out the flyer to anyone that needs assisted housing. The
Waiting list will be opened on September 11, 2020 at 8:00 am for the first 125 applicants.
e. Ms. Ruthart explained to the Board of Commissioners that she raised the Payment standards to
110% of the Fair Market Rents to make PHA's rents more comparable to the rental market in
Paris and to help landlords with the increase of property taxes in Lamar County. Payment
standards can be raised to a maximum of 110% without Board or HUD approval.
f. Ms. Ruthart explained to the Board of Commissioners that the PHA has started an exterior
remodel of the units at 401/402 Booker T Washington Homes. That building is not completed yet
but is in the process of painting the brick/exterior and replacing the roof with metal roofing. All
building exteriors will eventually be remodeled as the PHA hopes to improve the look of the AHA
properties.
7.
