permitted to be given, signaled or transmitted in any manner." <br />Section 901.7, Systems out of service, shall be amended to read as follows: <br />"901.7 Systems Out of Service. Where a required fire protection <br />system is out of service or in the event of an excessive number of activations, <br />the fire department and the fire code official shall be notified immediately and, <br />where required by the fire code official, the building shall either be evacuated <br />or an approved fire watch shall be provided for all occupants left unprotected <br />by the shut down until the fire protection system has been returned to service. <br />"Where utilized, fire watches shall be provided with not less than one <br />approved means for notification of the fire department and their only duty <br />shall be to perform constant patrols of the protected premises and to keep <br />watch for fires." <br />Section 901.8.2; Removal of existing occupant -use hose lines, shall be amended <br />to read as follows: <br />"901.8.2 Removal of Occupant -use Hose Lines. The fire code official <br />is authorized to permit the removal of occupant -use hose lines and hose valves <br />where all of the following conditions exist: <br />"1. The hose line(s) would not be utilized by trained personnel or the <br />fire department. <br />"2. If the occupant -use hose lines are removed, but the hose valves are <br />required to remain as per the fire code official, such shall be -compatible <br />with local fire department fittings." <br />Section 903.1.1, Alternative protection, shall be amended to read as follows: <br />"903.1.1 Alternative Protection. Alternative automatic fire - <br />extinguishing systems complying with Section 904 shall be permitted in <br />addition to automatic sprinkler protection where recognized by the applicable <br />standard, or as approved by the fire code official." <br />Section 903.2, Where required, shall be amended to read as follows and to <br />delete the exception: <br />"903.2 Where required. Approved automatic sprinkler systems in new <br />buildings and structures shall be provided in the locations described in <br />Sections 903.2.1 through 903.2.12. <br />"Automatic Sprinklers shall not be installed in elevator machine rooms, <br />elevator machine spaces, and elevator hoistways, other than pits where <br />23 <br />
