WEDNESDAY February 10, 2021
Present
Chris Dux, Chairman
Laura Caffey, Vice Chairman
Linda Vandiver, Secretary
Matthew Coyle
Jennifer Long
Glee Emmite
Ryan Matthews
Cheri Bedford, HPO
Linda Knox, Council Liaison
Marvin Gorley
Jeff Faber
Mary Faber
Chairman Dux called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.
Guests
Meeting minutes for January 13, 2021 were approved by acclamation
Action was taken on the following Certificates of Appropriateness:
a. 255 SW 1st Street, South Main Iron, Motorcycle Sales- Garage doors.
Marvin Gorley presented the certificate of appropriateness on behalf of Harrison,
Walker and Harper. South Main Iron had a previous certificate of appropriateness that had
expired. There has been some considerable changes in the requested design, so a new
certificate of appropriateness was submitted. The current certificate of appropriateness is
addressing the east facing fagade of the building that opens to South Main Street. The current
fagade consists of what was historically three (3) garage openings that have been filled in
with haddock blocks and painted. The applicant is requesting removal of all haddock block
infill in all three openings down to the original structural brick. The new construction
consists of wooden telescoping doors on the north and south openings, and a recessed
storefront entry in the center all construction will be of wood and glass. A 1934 historic
photo was submitted and on file. A photo rendering was submitted with the certificate of
appropriateness along with the following description:
Garage Door Dimensions (North and South openings): Each opening will be filled with four 9 -foot
panels. The panels on the outside edges do not move. Three panels in each opening telescope into
a pocket behind one stationary panel. They are designed to line up when stacked so that the glass
is aligned. Each garage door panel has four pieces of glass, two transom panes and two large panes.
Horizontal mullions are 10 inches wide. Vertical mullions are 8 inches wide. Transom glass panes
are 2 -foot by 3.5 -foot. Large glass panes ore 8 -foot by 3.5 -foot.
Central Store Front: Mullions and glass are the same as on garage door panels except for the doors.
The transom window above the main doors will be stationary so the doors will be approximately 9 -
foot tall instead of 12 -foot tall
Commissioner Long made a motion to approve the application as presented. Motion was
seconded by Commissioner Vandiver. Motion carried.
