Several events will take place in June, with all of them being outside so that Tracy
can utilize the deck for more space.
The orange sheet is the summer reading log. June's reading log will be for a
chance to earn Splash Kingdom tickets, with the children having the option to
read for hours or number of books, depending on their age. 30 tickets are
available for Splash Kingdom through this program. July's reading log will be
sponsored by the Texas Rangers. There are 50 vouchers available for this
program. For each child that earns a voucher, the child and everyone in their party
will receive a $5 ticket. The August reading log will be for the Red River Valley
Fair, with readers earning a fair packet that includes several fair items, along with
an entrance ticket.
The blue sheet is an invitation for students aged 5-17 to submit original artwork
for a Kids Design Contest for the next logo representing Friend of the Library.
The winner will receive a $20 gift card and the deadline is August 27, 2021. Steve
Hellmann asked how the contest is being publicized. Tracy said that she has it
playing on local radio stations, it is listed in The Paris News, and on the library
website and Facebook page. Melanie Loughmiller noted that she would pass the
information on to other local school librarians as well.
c. New Director Update
Ron Hervey spoke to City Manager Grayson Path and Mr. Path says that the
application for the director position will close on May 25th, 2021. Currently, there
are 4 applicants. As soon as the application date has passed, Mr. Path will reach
out to the hiring committee to discuss the hiring process.
III. Old Business: No old business.
IV. Presentations:
a. Budget Report
Expenditures in April totaled $37, 204.53, with $351,044.81 expended so far for
the year, which is 48.3% of FY 2021 budget of $727,331.00.
Melanie Loughmiller asked if it was possible to increase the budget for Tracy's
Children's Department. Ron Hervey asked Linda Knox about the budget process.
Ron stated that he will research the possibilities for allocating additional funds to
the Children's Department. Steve Hellmann noted that the Children's Library has
larger circulation numbers but a smaller budget. All board members were in
agreement that having a robust children's catalog is important.
b. Statistical Report
