planned for Paris. Those ideas are listed in Section VIII Director's Remarks of the
Meeting Minutes.
III. Old Business: No old business to report.
IV. Presentations
a. Budget Report.
Expenditures in May totaled $48,687.45, with $399,732.26 expended so far for
the year, which is 54.96% of FY 2021 budget of $727,331.00
b. Statistical Report.
The month of May report was reviewed, with the number of circulations
continuing to rise. Adult books borrowed were 2,687 and children's books were
2,621. The children's summer reading program already has 214 participants, with
over 80 children having completed the challenge. Steve Hellmann noted that
people are getting out more and coming back to the library.
Dr. Myers Hurt asked if it would be possible to find a way to track how many
books a specific person checks out, in hopes of finding a more accurate picture
of funding for children's books versus adults. Tim said that it could be a difficult
process because so many family members use one library card, thus making the
tracking to a specific age group or other subgroup of patrons a challenge.
V. Friends of the Library Report: Mr. DeGhelder mentioned that he has not met the
Friends of the Library yet and would like to. He is curious as to why the Friends do
not have their monthly meetings at the library. He does recognize that the Friends
are big stakeholders and are known to be eager to help when the library needs
them. Mr. DeGhelder suggested that placing the Friends as an item in the Strategic
Plan would help to visualize the goals of the Friends, as well as make it easier to
organize which programs they're willing to assist with. He thought that it would be a
good idea if he knew what the Friends of the Library's philosophy was, so it could be
clearer to other people who may be interested in joining.
VI. Director's Remarks: Mr. DeGhelder provided a few items that he would like to
immediately begin working toward as he takes on the role as the new library
director.
a. Strategic Plan: Tim is motivated to incorporate a Strategic Plan for the Paris
Public Library, which he says will offer more in-depth information on what to
accomplish, as well as a way to stay more relevant within the community and
also, specific ways in which the library can reach and maintain accountability
