relatives, but also for virtual job interviews. Steve suggested to have the 3 -hour
time limit removed from the proposed update. The board agreed and it was
stricken from the proposal, which is reflected in the notes above, listed under
"Time Limits." Steve also asked where there was a card requirement for
accessing the computers. Tim responded that it is a federal requirement under
the Patriot Act.
After discussion of the proposed updated policies, Eva Dickey made a motion to
approve, with Myers Hurt adding the second. All board members present were in
favor of the updated Computer Use Rules.
Tim DeGhelder created a presentation of his vision for the library to the Advisory
Board using the new Smart Television that was donated to the library by an
anonymous donor. The presentation featured possibilities of programs and
offerings the library may be able to have in the future, if space was available. The
suggestions and creativity for programs are plentiful, but Tim says that the
current building does not contain enough space to hold enough people, which
limits the offerings that the library could present to the public. The meeting
room that is used for programs can only hold 49 people under Fire Safety codes.
Tim envisions a meeting room that could support an activity that would hold 200
people.
After watching the video of the possibilities for different types of programs the
library could facilitate, if the space was available, Tim then shared his vision his
vision with the Board the space he would like to use. Located underneath the
current building is an unfinished storage basement that the City of Paris uses
primarily to hold the Christmas decorations for the city. Tim hopes that if the
space was cleared out and completely finished, including reinforcing the ceiling,
flooring, a bathroom, small kitchen, and walls, this would be the perfect place for
a large community gathering.
Tim noted that the possibilities are endless for this proposed finished space.
Meetings could be held there, classes, special performers, a place to go for the
children's program in inclement weather, etc. The library serves as a neutral
community location, where all people are welcome and this could be the perfect
space for clubs and organizations to come and meet. Depending upon the group
using the space, it is also possible to charge for the gathering. The space may be
available during hours in which the library is closed as well. This would also be
the perfect location for the Friends of the Library to have meetings as well as
fundraising events. I
