valuable investments. Tim stated that regardless of the situation, he wants <br />people to be able to use the library computers. This would include people who <br />do not have library cards, those with fines, and other reasonable circumstances <br />that a non -card holder would need to use the computer. Tim's philosophy is that <br />if the people are not removing anything from the library, then there is very little <br />risk. <br />Other items that were updated in the Computer Use Rules were: <br />Using a Computer at the Library <br />Users will no longer be required to own a Paris Public Library card to have use of <br />the computers. <br />Computers users will have access to appropriate chat and game options. <br />Children <br />Children aged 12-17 must have a parent or legal guardian sing the Minor <br />Computer Workstation Agreement to be able to use a computer without the <br />parent or legal guardian present. Out of county children must have a parent or <br />legal guardian verbally OK the child's use of the computer. Children under 12 <br />years of age must have a parent or legal guardian present and supervising the <br />child on that computer. <br />Time Limits <br />Computer usage is limited to one hour per session. If there is no waiting list, time <br />may be extended. Computer use is on a first-come, first -serve basis. <br />Tim and Ron discussed the reasoning behind the computer usage updates, <br />beginning with accessibility to chat and game options. Now that the library has <br />more computers available, patrons will be able to use chat programs as well as <br />playing games. The library is also working to streamline the process and reduce <br />unnecessary paperwork. Tim further clarified children under 12 would still be <br />required to have a parent or legal guardian sit with them for the entirety of their <br />computer usage. The library has a Child Abandonment policy that reflects this. <br />Ron added that this update will make it easier for patrons to access valuable <br />internet resources. Steve asked if there would be computers specifically <br />designated as "kid -safe." Ron is exploring various options for filtering programs. <br />Ron also noted that if there are funds available, he would like to have two new <br />computers set aside for children. <br />Tim also included that he would like to have the Zoom communication program <br />installed in the near future, for people to not only be able to communicate with <br />
