Kids Read Free program will include the national "1000 Books before
Kindergarten" initiative. Children who sign up can earn "Brag Tags" for each level
they reach toward the goal of 1000 books read before kindergarten. The method
of reading the books can be via any person reading to them, including Story
Time. Children who earn all of the Brag Tags will reach the Reading Superstar
level. Tim stated that this is a way for the children to have fun while having the
love of reading instilled in them at a young age. DeEtte Cobb wanted to know
how long the children have to complete the task and Tim said they have until
they reach kindergarten, so it depends on how old they are when they begin.
Steve asked if the parents can do all the reading and Tim said yes. Tim also noted
that one book read to two children at the same time does count for each child.
Steve asked if the library could partner with the local Head Start and Tim said
that the library is reaching out to all pre-school aged facilities, as anyone can
read to the children. The point is to simply read to young children. This will
officially roll out on April 15t, 2022 and Tim would like to have a pizza party for
any children who complete the initiative before April 2023.
b. Adult Reading Program has 285 people signed up so far and 72 have already
completed the contest. Tim stated that he bought $50 in gift cards from Paris
Coffee and they matched that amount in donation, for a total of $100 in gift
cards to be drawn for the reading program participants.
c. Check Us Out currently has 2 months of programs on 1 page and Tim said that
the newsletter has the possibility to move to 1 month per page if more activities
begin.
d. Adult Team: The Adult Team food drive was a huge success. Visitors to the
library donated so much food that it will be divided among the Downtown Food
Pantry and City Square Paris for distribution.
e. Teen Team: The first Teen program will be on March 25. Teens will have an
opportunity to make a snow globe or a terrarium. If attendance is low at this first
event, staff will have a "make and take" available for others that did not attend
who can bring all of the supplies home with them and make it there.
f. Pete the Cat Pizza Party will be March 18tH
g. Director Book Club: In April, the Director's Book Club with begin with Chicken
Soup for the Soul.
h. Meeting Room Use Agreement Form. Tim noted that there needs to be a more
effective way to schedule the Meeting Room for the public and that it is
important to include an agreement for how the Meeting Room will be used. Tim
wants the agreement to be similar to the Computer Use Policy that is currently in
place at the library, so that the room space availability is fair for everyone. This
will be discussed further at the March 16th meeting.
L Small leaks were found in the roof during the recent ice storm. Tim informed the
board that these leaks were currently being addressed for repairs.
j. Family Craft Night will be on April 11th. The craft will be making cheap and easy
cat tents. Tim provided an example to the board. He said that the staff will place
examples throughout the library, inviting families to join the event.
