Mr. Eudy explains that the <br />proposed sign is just an idea of what they would like to have; their current sign is an aged, <br />marquis sign that they have to manually change and they would like to have something more <br />current. They have not met with any contractors yet, but they also intend on keeping the sign the <br />same size. <br />There was discussion amongst the Board and the applicant about the idea of the proposed sign <br />and how it would be illuminated. The Board expressed concern that if the variances were to be <br />approved it would go against the intent of preserving the Historical District. <br />Ms. Alsobrook opened the public hearing. <br />Ben Vaughn of 1225 SE 20th Street spoke in opposition of the requests. <br />Tony Clem spoke in opposition of the requests. <br />Mayor Portugal of 2020 NE 38th Street spoke in opposition of the requests. <br />John Lee of 3568 Clarksville Street spoke in opposition of the requests. <br />Glee Emmite of 3065 Aspen Drive spoke in opposition of the requests. <br />Skipper Steely of 801 W Sherman Street was impartial to the requests. <br />No one else spoke in favor or opposition of the request. <br />Public hearing was declared closed. <br />Ms. Alsobrook reopened the public hearing. <br />Andrew Kerley of 1010 Cardinal Lane spoke in favor of the requests and asked that the Board <br />consider how people will be able to repair and upgrade their signs within the Historical District in <br />the future. <br />Chris Dux of 116 W Kaufman Street spoke in opposition of the requests. <br />Public hearing was declared closed. <br />Motion was made by Larry Walker, seconded by Alix Putnam to deny the variances to the City of <br />Paris Certificate of Appropriateness and Sign Ordinances to allow an electronic sign based on the <br />
