<br />City of Paris, Texas <br /> <br />2004-05 Budget <br /> <br />Department 64 <br />Paris Public Library <br /> <br />The Library Director is the administrative officer responsible for this department The Paris Public Library provides free access <br />to resources for area citizens to read, learn and connect to the full spectrum of ideas and information that is essential to our <br />democracy. The Library serves as a door to learning for preschoolers and as a cornerstone of our local education system. It <br />offers a broad and diverse range of materials to entertain and enlighten in many formats, including books, audio books, <br />videos, music cassettes and computers with internet access. It also provides programs that focus on literacy skills and <br />literature appreciation for children and adults. All funding for the Paris Public Library comes from the City of Paris althou9h <br />the resources are provided for and used by citizens throughout t.amar County. <br /> <br />Division 80 <br />Warehouse <br /> <br />The Finance Director is the administrative officer responsible for this division of the Finance Department. Funding for this <br />activity is provided through the Water and Sewer Fund because most supplies maintained are used by the utility related <br />departments and divisions. Division personnel purchase, store, and distribute materials, supplies, and tools used by City <br />departments and divisions. A perpetual inventory system is maintained. <br /> <br />Division 81 <br />Utility Billing and Collecting <br /> <br />The Finance Director is the administrative officer responsible for this division of the Finance Department. Funding for this <br />activity is available through the Water and Sewer Fund. Employees of this division maintain all water, sewer, sanitation, and <br />prorrata accounts. Included in this activity is meter reading and meter rereads, account billing, account collections, service <br />initiation, and service termination. <br /> <br />Division 82 <br /> <br />Water Production <br /> <br />The Director of Utilities is the administrative officer responsible for this division of the Utilities Department. Funding for this <br />activity is available through the Water and Sewer Fund. Personnel of this division are responsible for supplying the wate <br />needs of the citizens of Paris and also, through wholesale contracts with Lamar County Water Supply District and MJC Water <br />Supply Corporation, the citizens of Lamar County and western Red River County. The primary water supply is Pat Mayse <br />Lake. We also take water as needed from t.ake Crook. All water is treated by personnel at the water treatment plant located <br />at Lake Crook to meet the exacting and ever changing standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Texas <br />Natural Resource Conservation Commission, and the Texas Department of Health before distribution. Personnel in this <br />Division are also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the raw water pumps and raw water intake structures at <br />Pat Mayse Lake and, t.ake Crook, the two elevated water storage tanks, the ground storate tanks and pumping station, the <br />sludge disposal system adjacent to the Water Treatment Plant, Lake Crook Dam, and for answering after hours water and <br />sewer emergency calls and dispatching appropriate personnel <br />Division 83 <br /> <br />Water Distribution <br /> <br />The Director of Public Works is the administrative officer responsible for this division of the Public Works Department funded <br />out of the Water and Sewer Fund. Employees of this division are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the wate <br />distribution system within the city, including major water mains, smaller water mains, service lines, and fire hydrants and <br />valves. Employees maintain approximately 182.44 miles of water lines and 907 fire hydrants and install, repair, and calibrate <br />a total of 9,896 residential and commercial water meters used in the water distribution system. <br /> <br />Page 5 <br />
