Paris Public Library Advisory Board <br />06/21/2023 <br />Meeting Minutes <br />Call to Order: <br />The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order by <br />Chairman Steve Hellmann at 5:02 pm. <br />Board members present were: Steve Hellmann, Eva Dickey, DeEtte Cobb, and <br />Jennifer Cullum. Lauren Matthews, Melanie Loughmiller, and Amy Watson were <br />absent. Also present was Library Director Connie Lawman. <br />Citizens Forum: <br />No citizens addressed the library board. <br />III. Approval: <br />Minutes of the May 17, 2023 meeting were approved with the correction to the <br />typing error on Section VI Director's Remarks, from the amount of $10,00 to <br />$10,000. Jennifer Cullum made the motion to approve the minutes, with Eva Dickey <br />providing the Second. <br />IV. New Business: <br />a. Staff Intro: <br />Vivian Beasley, the new Teen Paraprofessional was initially scheduled to make an <br />introduction to the board but Vivian was unavailable and Ron Hervey stood in. <br />Ron introduced himself to the board as the Library Supervisor, who oversees <br />daily operations and assists the Library Director as needed. Also included in his <br />tasks are the daily cash register accounting, statistics, supervising the volunteers, <br />assisting the staff with technology updates, and overseeing the computer lab, <br />which he has done for 25 years. <br />Ron said that when the computer portion of the library first started, he began <br />with 2 computers, no internet, and started from scratch. Since then, the <br />computer service area of the library has grown tremendously. Ron helps patrons <br />with computer searches, build resumes, and his most rewarding portion of the <br />position has been helping illiterate people complete tasks on the library <br />computers. It makes him feel good to do something that makes a difference in <br />people's lives. Above all of the requirements of his position, Ron feels that the <br />most important aspect of his position is to keep the patrons and the library <br />collection safe. <br />Steve asked Ron what does the library need in the next 5 years and Ron <br />responded that the library always needs more room. However, in order to get <br />something in, you have to move something out. Tablets and smartphones have <br />made a positive impact with regard to space. There used to be a waitlist for the <br />
