Paris Public Library Advisory Board <br />10/18/2023 <br />Meeting Minutes <br />I. Call to Order: <br />The regular meeting of the Paris Public Library Advisory Board was called to order <br />by Chairman Steve Hellmann at 5:00 p.m. <br />Board members present were: Steve Hellmann, Jennifer Cullum, Amy Watson, <br />Melanie Loughmiller, Kelvin Hicks, Myers Hurt and DeEtte Cobb. Also present were <br />Library Director Connie Lawman, Assistant City Manager Rob Vine, and <br />representatives from Friends of the Library Audrey Mathieu and Jeannie Walter. <br />II. Citizens Forum: <br />No citizens addressed the library board. <br />III. Approval: The minutes of the September 20, 2023 meeting were approved with two <br />corrections. Under Section IV, Updated Computer Policy, the name Steve Vine needs <br />to be corrected to Rob Vine, Under Section IV, Children's Room Project, Steve <br />Hellmann asked that the meeting notes record that Steve Hellmann requested for <br />Tracy Clark in the Children's Library be given a leadership role in the redesign of her <br />area. Connie Lawman indicated that she would not do that but would allow Tracie to <br />have input. After no further corrections to the meeting notes, Amy Watson made the <br />motion to approve, with Kelvin Hicks providing the 2nd <br />IV, New Business: <br />a. Staff Intro: <br />Jerry Jarrell has worked with the library for almost 5 years. Prior to working with <br />the Paris Public Library, he worked in the Middle School Library at North Lamar <br />ISD for 22 years. Jerry is responsible for a variety of services at the library, <br />including Interlibrary Loans, the Reference Desk, and the Information Desk. <br />DeEtte Cobb noted that Jerry is wonderful and always very friendly. Connie <br />stated that he is the branch's "history book." Steve Hellmann asked Jerry which <br />book in the Interlibrary Loan system is the most popular. Jerry replied, stating that <br />everything in the world is popular. Audrie asked if Jerry can buy books <br />throughout the year, to which Connie responded that they purchase books all year <br />long. The library is on a list of automatic purchasing books, but can also buy as <br />needed. Steve Hellmann asked what the process was for identifying missing <br />books in a series. Connie responded that the library would run a report. <br />b. Holiday Meeting Schedule: <br />The board reviewed their holiday schedules and agreed to that November 15`' <br />would be an acceptable date for the next regularly scheduled meeting. The board <br />agreed that December 20fh, 2023 would be skipped for the holiday schedule. <br />Connie noted that she would be away on business for the library on the regularly <br />
